We asked our community members at SonoPath Education if they've ever had buyers remorse with ultrasound equipment, and what advice they could share to help others avoid the same.

Earlier this year, VPN announced that NAVTA is now recognizing the 16th technician specialty, Diagnostic Imaging (title will be VTS-DI). The diagnostic imaging specialty will include DR, CT, fluoroscopic special procedures, nuclear imaging, MRI and Ultrasound.

As I’m sure you know - ultrasound can be a bear to undertake…the learning curve can be difficult and it does require hands-on training and lots of practice - especially in the beginning. Across the veterinary industry, there seems to be a huge gap between ultrasound training and implementing those new skills into every day medicine. 

The ultrasound purchasing process can be as confusing as anything we deal with in veterinary medicine. Before you go down the route of incorporating ultrasound into your practice and ultimately purchasing a machine and education package ask yourself the following questions:

Offloading used equipment can be frustrating. Let's just get that out the way. The first hurdle...getting over the current value (or lack of). On the bright side, your veterinary ultrasound machine has hopefully been generating revenue and "earning its keep" along the way.
